Welcome Home to the Budapest Squad... The following are some beautiful sentiments written by Jessica Sharkey.
To be honest I am not one to write things on Facebook, I am one of the ones that scrolls through the newsfeed and clicks like and adds a comment every now and again, but after spending a week with a great bunch of people, I just wanted to say a few things, so here goes…..
I see Taekwon-Do as teaching discipline, respect and the importance of setting and achieving personal goals. Insspiration Taekwon-Do success is due to our excellent instructors, coaches and friends, Mr. Connolly and Mr. Mahon.Their unlimited patience working with and training their younger students is amazing. They instil them a sense of pride, integrity and discipline while teaching the philosophy and techniques of Taekwon-Do.
My girls don’t go to Taekwon-Do (as yet), but as an older student I can see a massive improvement in all the young children who are part of Inspiration Taekwon-Do. When I started, some of the kids were shy, were unable to focus on what they were doing, or were just training to be there. However, as time went by, I have seen all these children develop into very positive and confident youngsters. A big thank you to Mr. Connolly and Mr. Mahon for all their hard work and patience. They have thought us all courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. They are not only dedicated to teaching patterns, sparring etc., they are also dedicated to the development of the children’s characters and values.
Congratulations to Nicola, Cian and Saoirse on their medals and are now World Champions, and although other team members including myself didn’t medal this time, I’m sure everyone would agree with me when I say “they are all World Champions in our eyes”. It took extreme courage and commitment to step on the mats and you all did yourselves proud. When all the kids compete and win the local and national competitions, the pride and personal satisfaction they experience I’m sure is very rewarding, when they lose its important they know they gave their best effort, showed good sportsmanship and strive to win at the next competition. Each and every one of the kids are a credit to their parents, they all supported, comforted and encouraged one another. Although you may not have succeeded in getting a medal this time, it doesn’t mean you failed, see it as an opportunity to say I can deal with this and I am strong.
I always say to my girls “it’s not all about winning, its taking part that’s important”. Children who try, who are responsible and who make positive and sincere efforts are the ones who will succeed.
I would also like to thank all the guys and gals who supported us from home throughout the whole competition and to see you all there to welcome us home was a huge surprise for everyone and finished the trip off nicely. Thanks also to all the parents who travelled with us and supported us all throughout the week.

Inspiration Taekwon-Do are proud to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the foundation of the club.
The club opened it's doors for the first time in the small village of Clonmellon on October 1st, 2011 at 2:30pm.
There on the day were Mr. Rodney Connolly, Mr. Bryan Mahon and Ms. Carrie-lee Mahon and a very nervous first pupil James McKenna (aged 5).
A second school opened in Delvin the following Tuesday with the second pupil Shane Doyle.
Opening a Taekwon-do school was a bold venture for Mr. Connolly and the team, the club came along at just the right time too with a massive uptake in children and adults wanting to learn the ancient art of Taekwon-Do. Mr. Connolly hasn't looked back and has kept moving forward at a steady pace, always focused.
Over the past 5 years the club has grown from strength to strength with new schools opening up around Meath and Westmeath. At present Inspiration Taekwon-Do run 11 schools and students can train up to six days per week. The club have become a force to be reckoned with and have travelled the length and breadth of the country winning competitions as they do. The squad have travelled to Scotland and have done themselves and their club proud both on and off the mats.
The next big milestone for the club will be the trip to Budapest (Hungary) later in October where we know they will shine. The supporters must also get a mention too with mammies and daddies always willing to come along and support the club.
Enjoy the celebration, 5 years and getting better every year.
